Gespräch mit Kwandiwe Kondlo:
The Zimbabwean Land Reform from a South African Perspective

The Zimbabwean experiment of land redistribution has had but one major benefit worldwide: to bring back land reform to the international agenda. Land reform is both an urgent issue and a highly emotional topic for many in southern Africa today. The hastened land reforms and the expropriation and redistribution of land in neighbouring Zimbabwe has underlined the pressing need for a solution to this problem in South Africa. It remains to be seen how Zimbabwe will balance out long-term vision with short-term policies, stresses and strains that have occurred during the ‘new trajectory to accelerate land redistribution’ phase.

Dr. Kwandiwe Kondlo, Research fellow at the Centre for Policy Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and former senior researcher at the Department of Land Affairs in South Africa, will talk about the history and politics of land reform in Zimbabwe and its impacts from a South African perspective. Input in English followed by discussion.
